Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance is being open to what hurts and commitment is our dedication to leading ourselves to growth.  ACT is a talk therapy that increases mindfulness, body awareness, presence and choice in life. Individuals learn to notice their thoughts and recognize that they have a choice of what they do with them. Individuals gain insight into how their thoughts impact their behavior. They learn to be with their feelings in place of running away from or feeling confused by their feelings.  This therapy reduces overwhelm and increases a sense of safety to be in our body, with our thoughts, feelings and behaviors.

Through this therapy,  individuals increase their sense of control and inner strength. You choose the direction of your life. It helps individuals to stay in the present moment, which increases awareness in life. With this strength, it feels safer to try new experiences.
